Payment Methods
« on: March 18, 2010, 06:39:09 AM »
What is your current payment methods if we want to subscribe to one of your plans? I know that PayPal is the most used payment processor but what if I don't have one? Can you do direct charging from credit cards?

We prefer Credit Card to paypal but we take both. We accept Visa and MC via direct merchant account.

Do you also take other payment processors? What other forms of payment do you provide?

Is there a link where we can check what kind of payment methods we can do?

Thank you. I was looking for the options on payment on the hosting page but I found none. I'm glad that you are going to post it so that everyone will know their payment options.

Thanks for the information. I have Visa and Paypal, so it would be OK for me. It's interesting that you also accept payment using Google Checkout. Do you have many subscribers who use this payment method?

We prefer Visa/MC direct because we get a better rate but we offer paypal because some people feel more comfortable with it.

Google checkout is really a fallback for people who have issues with other payment methods. I wouldn't suggest it if you have an alternative because it doesn't allow subscriptions which means that you have to visit our site each month and pay your bill manually. Having said that we have some customers in countries like Denmark who cannot utilize paypal and Google checkout seems to work well for them.

I don't have a Google Checkout yet but Google must offer the recurring fee feature. It will surely help them in marketing their payment processor.

Dave, what do you mean about getting "better rate" with paying directly with Visa/MC?

Because we have a direct merchant account with Visa / Mastercard we pay a smaller service charge to them than we do to say Paypal who charges us roughly 5% on each sale.

I didn't know about that. I thought you pay PayPal a monthly fee for their services and that is all. I haven't tried the merchant account so I don't know that they charged you every sale you make.

Yeah, I think PayPal starts to charge everything. I work online doing some freelancing jobs and receive payments through PayPal. They charge me on most of those transactions.

It's a good idea to offer several payment options; I prefer Paypal myself.  Most online businesses these days would rather you use Paypal for all your money transactions.

Paypal makes things easier sometimes.  I use it anytime I do anything through eBay.  It makes me feel a little safer when shopping online.  They do charge a fee when you receive payments through them on each transaction though.  Every time I sell something through eBay there is a percentage they take out when I receive the transaction.

I pay via PayPal as well and have been using it for other services without any problems for years now. From a merchant perspective the fees do add up at times though but as long as you price your service/product accordingly, it'll be worthwhile as it certainly gains the customer's trust since I personally would rather give a random website I stumble across a payment via PP than with my credit card directly.

Are there any good alternatives to PayPal that maybe don't charge as much.  It almost seems that anymore PayPal has a slight monopoly of the online payment services.  Several places you go won't take any other payment method, especially through eBay.  Has anyone found any other options?
