Advertisers?

Where is the best place to find businesses or other websites to advertise on your website? Is it best to work with some kind of affiliate group or try and do it on your own?

I think the easiest way to get ads on your website is by promoting affiliate products and place their banners or other promotional materials on your website. An affiliate product owner wouldn't really care about where you place their ads on, as long as you could make sales.

One of the easiest things I've found to get advertisements put on your site is Google's Adsense. They pay you for every time someone clicks on the ads. It's really simple and you can set it to have ads related to the content on your website. I have it on my website, though I haven't generated much revenue through it yet.

I have used Adsense before. I didn't take my website very seriously so I didn't make much. They are easy to put on your website, though.
Affiliate ads would look great. And, if you have a following, you could sell ads to other people. They could be for complementary products or even competing products.

Adsense won't do you much good if you don't get a lot of traffic but it's better than nothing. I'd recommend selling ad space directly if you have a good amount of targeted traffic even if it's not over 10K UV as some advertisers might still be interested although you certainly won't be paid that much.
Affiliate ads that earn you commission can be good as well if your audience is comfortable with purchasing online so it wouldn't hurt to try, just make sure the payout limit is reasonable.

If your website got at least 1000 unique visitors a day, you may consider to place CPM ads on your website. It will guarantee you steady income as you will get paid for every 1000 impressions instead of clicks.

I keep hearing about putting affiliate ads on your page but I don't really know much about them. Could someone help to explain where I would go to get affiliate ads? I think that this might be another good option for me to look into.

You could look into Commission Junction and Linkshare. They represent companies that will pay you a commission and/or a referral fee if someone purchases something from them through your site.

Almost any site that you want to be an affiliate for will have ads that you can use on your site. You don't HAVE to go through Commission Junction or places like that to become an affiliate, either. If you find a site that you really like their products, look around the site. They often have an affiliate program set up. And, they will often have ads ready for you to use with your affiliate code already in there.

Another alternative to Commission Junction and Linkshare is Share-a-Sale. These sites are free to join and have a large number of companies to choose from. They really make it easy to add to your site. There are also many individual sites that offer affiliate commissions directly from their sites as well.

It's much easier to use affiliate companies. Some good ones are Google Adsense, Bidvertiser, Commission Junction, LinkShare, PayDot.com, and ClickBank. All you really have to do is add their banners to your site. It's quick and easy to set up.
