Best Spyware / MalWare Product
« on: May 29, 2010, 12:42:24 PM »
I'm looking for a good anti-spyware / malware product to put on my computers. Every one I research seems to claim they are the best. I'm interested in your opinions for those who have one of these products. What to you think is the best anti-spyware / malware product on the market today (for the Windows XP and Windows Vista platforms) ?

I recently got an exceptionally nasty trojan virus that I had to take my computer at work into the shop. It's the one that looks like your windows firewall page and claims your computer is infested with viruses and you have to buy their software just to get rid of the notice. It cost me $75.

About 2 weeks later I got a similar one at home. This time I was able to download Spyware Doctor from pctools. This worked great and got rid of the virus. It also can work in the background. A little pricey $40 but it worked.

MalwareBytes and Avast are the best tools I've found, both have free versions as well but if you can afford it, I'd recommend looking into their paid versions which offer enhanced security.

I forgot to mention that I had Avast installed and still got the nasty trojan horse. Avast usually blocks these but as I said, this one was nasty. I wished I'd had known about MalwareBytes since it's free. I still recommend Avast along with something else.

That's unusual, Max! You're the first person I've heard of that had a problem with Avast letting through a virus. We have been using Avast for several years now with no issues.

That said, I have heard that the pay Malwarebytes is a wise thing to install.
