Sure, we offer Softaculous in our control panel that allows you to setup a real blog on your website in minutes.

Okay, thanks for letting me know.  I'm going to have to look more into this.  I was a little worried that it would be more difficult to set up, as I'm not familiar with any html or anything like that.  All I've ever done as far as setting up a blog or website has been through the builder programs available on each site.  Thanks again!  ;D

Data loss is certainly an issue with these free services and if you're currently on one with an intent to use the website for serious purposes I'd recommend creating a backup and exporting it to a paid hosting environment. Some services only offer such backups as a paid option and if that's the case, then it's a worthy investment if you plan on continuing the site as usually the price is fairly reasonable ($5-$10).

The more I learn about free hosting, the more I am beginning to distrust it.  It seems like a great thing, and I have used them because I thought it would be easier to learn on a free site.

However, it seems if you are serious, you should go ahead and take the plunge and pay for your site.  Learn that way and then upgrade as you expand.  If you learn everything on your free site, you won't know what to do when you set up on a paid host.
View each storm as a rainbow in the making.

As long as you read the terms of agreement of the hosting service and make sure to follow the rules then it's quite safe. But be careful to follow all the rules or they can turn off / delete your site.
